About Lalbaba College

Founded on August 5, 1964, Lalbaba College is located in Howrah, West Bengal. Lalbaba College offers various courses in science, arts and commerce. Every year the college intakes 4000 students who are taught by over 80 qualified teachers and are supported by over 20 non-teaching staff. The founding story of the Lalbaba College is very inspiring, and it goes like this.

Children from local industrialists, aristocratic families, and ordinary people attended many good schools in the Belur, Bally, and surrounding areas in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Higher education became difficult for many because there were no institutions of higher learning in the area, and they had to travel to Kolkata to be admitted. The College was named after the illustrious Sikh Panth, Lalbaba, who significantly impacted the Belur region during the fourth and fifth decades of the 20th century.

On August 5, 1964, the college was founded by the Lalbaba Trust with assistance from a few local social workers as a part of this collegiate educational complex. It was affiliated with the University of Calcutta to offer local students an undergraduate education. The Lalbaba Trust was in charge of managing the entire complex, including the college and the school and ashrama, at the time of its foundation. However, the college's governing body has grown independent over time and is no longer under the control of the trust.

Lalbaba College is certified by UGC. The certification was received on September 7, 1964. The college is affiliated with the University of Kolkata. Moreover, on November 4, 2004, Lalbaba College got NAAC accreditation.

Lalbaba College Campus Facilities and Infrastructure

The current college building at Lalbaba College is an L-shaped, four-story structure that is annexed to a three-story building. It has roomy classrooms with adequate furniture and IT equipment. It also has other infrastructure features like a comprehensive library, a cosy reading room, and adequately furnished common areas. Infrastructure development has completely transformed the college over the past few years. The entire college is currently being renovated. All of these are anticipated to contribute to the college's effort to cultivate a positive atmosphere and maximise the potential of each student. Below we have mentioned the Lalbaba College facilities.

The Central Library: One of the college's most important and proactive departments is the central library. The Lalbaba College library has nearly 35,000 books, and it subscribes to several journals and daily newspapers. The library has expanded over the years with the help of college resources, personal donations from former and current teachers, and financial support from the University Grants Commission. Six days a week, ten hours a day, the library makes its reading materials available to all of its users. The library staff members are very eager to assist and put in a lot of effort to maintain their passion for learning. Every Sunday, the library is scheduled to be closed.

Computer Lab: The Lalbaba college installed a computer lab under the M.P. Local Area Development plan. Installed and connected via a local area network are twenty-two new computers. High-speed internet access is also available for connecting to the laboratory. This infrastructure is available to college students who the university has required to complete computer training.

Canteen: Providing good quality food products to students is a duty of Lalbaba College. That is why the college has started offering canteen services for its students. The canteen has proper sitting and eating arrangements. Students can buy food of different cuisines to suit their tastes.

Common Room: The common room at Lalbaba College is very spacious and properly equipped with all the necessary recreational facilities. Students can visit this area to take a time off from studies and focus.

Wifi Campus: The whole campus is connected with high speed Wifi connection. Students, staff and faculty have access to free wifi for their use. People visiting the college campus can also get access to the wifi connection with permission. This wifi enables students to access the e-library and other study materials from the internet.

Research Laboratories: The Lalbaba College also indulge itself in several academic research, and for that, they have developed a fully air conditioned research facility that can help them do research and teach students at the same time.
